Now that many towns and cities have switched on their Christmas light's, opened up Santa's Grotto and shops windows twinkling with flashing Christmas decorations, I think it's time to start looking at Christmas attraction's in the North East for all the family, some of the attraction's may even be FREE!

1.Polar Express Santa Train Ride (Stanhope,County Durham)
Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, pyjama clad passengers will relive the magic of the story and see their favorite characters come to life as they are whisked away aboard The Polar Express on a magical round trip to the North Pole. During the journey, the Conductor will punch tickets and Chefs will serve hot chocolate, just like the film. Passengers will also enjoy a sing song and a special reading of the Van Allburg classic. At the North Pole, Santa will board the train to greet the children and will be giving a special sleigh bell to all those who believe.

The Polar Express train ride schedules include 5.00pm and 7.30pm departures throughout November and December. Advanced booking is required and tickets are on sale now. Prices start from  £20.00 per adult and  £15.00 per child (ages 2-12). A limited number of First Class tickets are also available and are  £35.00 per adult and  £25.00 per child (ages 2-12), or  £5.00 for children under the age of 2.

2. Christmas Bazaar (Chester-Le-Street, County Durham)
Join us for a fabulously indulgent afternoon of Festive shopping, Afternoon Tea, Christmas Carols & Mulled Wine all in the magical surroundings of Lumley Castle.

12.00pm until 4.00pm (Afternoon tea served from 1.30pm-4.00pm)

3. Metro Centre Christmas Carol Service (Gateshead,Newcastle)
Whatevcer your Christmas celebration is about this year - family, presents, relaxtion, allow it also to include a visit to a Carol Service to be told again of the Christian story and the immense value it can bring to our hearts and souls.

Metro Centre's very own Chaplain - Lyn Jamieson will lead a service here at MetroCentre supported by festive entertainments from the children of Emmaville Primary School in Crawcrook.

Come and join them in Exhibition Square from 1.00pm-2.30pm Sunday 9th December.

4. Dick Whittington onboard DFDS ferry
Dick Whittington Pantomime Day Event aboard DFDS Seaways. 
It's Panto time! Oh no it isn't oh yes it is! Enjoy a day of family fun and watch the classic story of Dick Whittington and his cat unfold aboard DFDS Seaways cruise ferry while moored at the Port of Tyne in Newcastle.
With kids activities, special entertainment and an apperance by Jack the Pirate (our mascot) and a whole ship to explore there is plenty to keep the family entertained before heading off for a 3-course lunch in our 7 Seas restaurant.
From £25.00 per adult and £12.50 per child, under 3s are free and no passport is required. Includes live pantomime, special entertainment and a 3 course buffet lunch. 
This will all take place on the 9th December.
