SEA LIFE, set to launch at Manchester’s Trafford Centre in June 2013, is searching the North West for children who are passionate about the seas and sea creatures to become Young Environmentalists.

The Young Environmentalist panel will be made up of 12 young people and one school class of 6 - 12 year olds from all over the North West. The panel will participate in grand opening events, help promote our conservation message in the community, and join in a host of special environment-linked activities during their ‘year of office’.

Plus the winning class will win a trip to visit the attraction when it is open and the individual winners will be awarded with a Sea Life Annual Pass so that they can visit the attraction as many times as they like throughout the year.*

The new 36,000 square foot centre will be more than just a spectacular marine life attraction, it will also champion a wide range of marine conservation endeavours, from safeguarding endangered sea turtles to trying to end the grisly practice of shark-finning.

The competition is open for entry between 5th December 2012 and 22nd
February 2013.  The public will then be able to vote for their
favorite entries between 23rd February and 8th March, 2013 before the
judges make the final decision and announce the winners.

To enter wannabe Young Environmentalists should:
1       Write a 100-word essay telling Sea Life why it is important to protect the seas, (schools should submit one entry per class).  The essay should start with "We need
to protect our sea life because…"

2       Entrants also have the chance to let their imaginations run riot and ‘draw’ or ‘paint’ a picture of an imaginary sea creature.

Entries should be submitted via the Sea Life Manchester Facebook page ( or by emailing  All entries will then go into the gallery where the public can vote for their favorite.  The winners will be chosen by a special Sea Life panel.

Neil Crittenden, general manager for SEA LIFE Manchester, comments; “Our children will inherit the daunting task of looking after our seas for the benefit of their own future children and their children’s children. That’s why we wants to find a panel of ocean ambassadors to help spread the word.”

Sea Life Manchester which is set to open in late Spring 2013, in Barton Square next to the LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre, aims to help visitors understand, empathise and feel impassioned about the 5,000 plus amazing sea creatures they will have the chance to see in over 30 spectacular marine displays boasting over 1 million litres of water.

Sea Life Manchester hopes to be the catalyst for thousands of children, families and schools to find out more about the issues facing the marine environment today.  Research shows that aquariums like Sea Life play a major role in providing the best opportunity to see, interact with and find out more about marine life.  Such opportunities greatly increase interest and proactive support for conservation activities, a cause that the brand is passionate about.
