Saltholme - Nature Reserve - Hartlepool

With Mr.R being off work all weekend, we decided to plan a lovely weekend outdoors with our 3 little girls.

I had a look on Groupon and Livingsocial to see if there was any good deals on, atlocal outdoor attractions. I came across a deal on Livingsocial, family nature reserve day with drinks each, crafts and explorer packs and parking for a reasonable low price of £9. I booked it yesterday morning, whilst I was drinking my first cup of coffee.

Later that afternoon, we got the children wrapped up warm and then off in the car we went on our little adventure. Alesha was very excited, she is an outdoor kinda girl! She loves hunting for bugs and being hands on outdoors. Alana on the otherhand, isn't as keen to pick up a spider or insect but will quite happily run wild outdoors.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady and made feel very welcome. She asked us if it was our first time, because it was she explained the route of the trail and gave us leaflets/maps etc. We then went into the room next door where Alesha and Alana were given an explorer pack. Each pack contained cards that had different insects/birds/flowers on which needed to be ticked if they saw them whilst walking around. Also inside the backpacks were magnifier and an insect pot.
Alesha was searching for ages for a bug but sadly only found a dead fly, we didn't stay as long as we hoped because it was a very cold day.

We all enjoyed it, it done the children the world of good to be out in the opening and learning about nature. A visit back to Saltholme is on the cards for the warmer months.

Here is a selection of our photos.
